Smile

So I wrote yesterday about how difficult the past week has been...I've been really stressed out, not really feeling like smiling a lot, etc. etc. But that's one of the reasons I love my job...I get to interact with lots of children and their families and that's one of he best parts of the job.

I was taking care of this one 5 year old boy at work today (among others). In the morning I just took all the stuff I needed for all the kids in the room with me to save time and once I got into the room I just put down all the stuff on the table and then went to take the five year old's temperature. He saw all the things I had brought into the room (just regular hospital stuff like bandages, etc.) and his eyes got a little bigger and sort of lit up and he said "Everyone gets something?!". I had to laugh because I thought it was so funny and such a cute comment and something so "unexpected"...So I laughed and I said "Yeah!!! It's almost like Christmas, huh?!". And he gave me this funny look and then laughed and his dad was laughing at it too.

I just LOVE laughing and being "silly" and cracking jokes and all that and I LOVE it when other people "get the jokes" and play along. And at work today the boy and his parents totally got my "Christmas joke" and we had a lot of fun with it! We just had a good laugh about it. So later on I brought a towel for the boy so that he can go take a shower and I was like "Look! You're even getting a towel!! How cool is that! Just like Christmas, huh?!". And again both the boy and his dad laughed. And then later on when I went into the room again, the boy's mother had arrived and the boy said all excited "I got new toy cars!!!" and I was like "Wow!!! That's awesome!! Let me see!!" and his mother said "Well, they are just toy cars that I brought from home and not really new ones...". Then his dad said to the boy "But hey, it's great if we can 'sell' them to you as 'new' toys!!". I had to laugh and I was like "Yeah...next Christmas is gonna be easy...you can just put some old toys away for a few days, and then wrap them up and give them to him for Christmas!!". LOL! I really loved having the boy and his parnts at the ward because we just kept joking around the whole day. Either the parents threw in some jokes that totally made me laugh, or I joked about something and they laughed...it was just great. I really needed the laughs and the smiles!!

Then there was this other almost two year old boy who was playing with his mom and giggling SO LOUDLY it made me laugh too!! It was SO cute!! And then later on he wanted to have one piece more of the cake he had had before...but there wasn't any left. And he kept looking at his plate with such sad and confused eyes like "Where's the cake...?" and he then looked at me and his mom and we were like "There is no cake...it's empty...no cake left" and he'd look down at his plate and go "empty...no cake...". He'd do it a couple of times and then he pulled the plate right in front of his face and started licking off the crumbs left on the plate!!! LOL! It was just painfully cute!! I had to laugh! I was like "Ooooh you poor thing...you only have crumbs left to eat!" LOL!

Anyways, work was fun today. I had such a good time and laughed so much with the kids and their parents....it was great! :)
