I'm not too picky about food...I'll eat pretty much anything if there is no meat, fish or poultry in it. I mean, I do have my days when I am not feeling too hungry, so I may not want to eat much of anything, or sometimes I have days when I have a huge craving for some particular food. The latter usually happens to me especially when I visit my mom. There are some dishes that I used to eat as a kid and that I haven't eaten in a long time (like, pea soup, for example), so at times, I get a HUGE craving for pea soup and just have to have it. There is only one type of food that I don't really like eating....It's pasta. When I was a college student I had very little money and so I often didn't have money for anything else than pasta. I ate spaghetti in ALL possible ways imaginable. Spaghetti with ketchup, spaghetti with mustard, spaghetti with butter, spaghetti with cinnamon and sugar (yeah...YUCK...but I had to eat SOMETHING...and it was my desperate attempt to make it taste different and to have "variety"...LOL!). My parents were always worried because I was MADLY anemic and really pale, because I wasn't eating well because I didn't have money for healthy food like vegetables, whole wheat bread, fruit, etc. and they kept asking me if I had enough money for food...and I kept telling them yes. Sometimes I'd lie and tell I had eaten some "amazing meal" with vegetables and what not, when in reality I had eaten......spaghetti....for the millionth of time. But I knew that if I would have told my parents the truth, they would have sent me more money immediately, and I was too proud to take their money. So I lied so that they wouldn't be worried. Anyways, so ever since I graduated from college....I have refused to eat pasta! LOL! I mean, I do eat it sometimes....but my idea of a "perfect dinner" does not include any pasta! LOL! And I know a lot of times the pasta dishes can be very delicious, especially in a restaurant. But after you eat pasta, and pretty much nothing BUT pasta for YEARS.....you get sick of it. REALLY sick of it. So sick of it that even the mear thought of eating pasta makes you feel sick.
So last night I had dinner with a few friends in a restaurant. I was really looking forward to it all day because the last time we ate there, the food was delicious. I had eggplant with greek feta cheese and with tomato sauce made out of fresh tomatoes and it was sooooooo delicious. So I didn't eat anything all day because I was looking forward to a good meal, and I wanted to have dinner AND a dessert. So to save some calories, I fasted until dinner.
So....we go in, look at the menu....and I turn the pages...and I can't find ONE vegetarian dish, nor am I able to find a dish that would make a great dish WITHOUT the meat/fish. So I am sitting there thinking "GREAT!! What am I gonna eat?!". The waiter came over to ask us what we want to drink, so I asked him if there were any vegetarian dishes available and he goes "Oh yes...we have one.....if you look right here...we have spaghetti with parmesan cheese"....and I just had to laugh when he said that because I was thinking "NO THANKS!!!!!!". LOL! So I kept looking at the menu and finally just ordered a salad and potatoes and ate that. The others were laughing and going "Well you have one hell of a dinner, eh?! That looks SO DELICIOUS!" *sarcasm*. I just had to laugh and tell them to shut up. I mean, I would have been perfectly fine with that meal in normal circumstances...but I had really been looking forward to having some amazing, delicious, "gourmet" vegetarian meal all day...and I ended up having a plain salad with plain potatoes. LOL! Luckily the dessert was great (I had crepes with vanilla ice cream and chocolate sauce...yummy!) and the company was great, so it was a great evening anyways.

I know what you're talking about... I had pasta for the last three days since I've run out of money. Being a college student can be awful sometimes...
Oh, and of course I know that restaurant-problem! : ) There's really a need for more animal-free meals in restaurants.
